Internship Fair
The Tech Valley Global Business Network Internship Fair will take place on Wednesday, March 4 from 4-6 p.m. at Citizens Bank (833 Broadway, Albany).
What is the purpose of the event?
This will serve as a matchmaking opportunity, connecting students seeking internships/special projects involving international business with Tech Valley employers who are active in global business. This event is for internships only and not full-time positions.
Who will attend this event?
Undergraduate and graduate Students from area colleges and universities including University at Albany, Union Graduate College, Union College, Siena College, College of Saint Rose, Rensselaer and others have been invited to attend and will be prepared to speak with businesses about their potential internship opportunities.
Why should a business participate?
If your company is currently involved (or seeking to be involved) with the global marketplace and have a meaningful project for an intern, this would be a perfect event for your business. Interns may be seeking project experiences in the following areas: finance, operations, marketing, research and development, human resources and management.
Does a business need to have vacancies when the event takes place?
It is not necessary to have vacancies at the time of the event. Students attending will be seeking summer and/or fall internships. Each company will have a table to display and distribute organization materials and descriptions of internship projects.
Does a business have to have a “formal” internship program to participate?
Employers who participate in the internship fair do not need to have a formal internship program. Rather, if you have a project that you need some assistance with or want to take a project “back off the shelf," an intern may be a good, cost-effective solution.
Are interns paid or do they receive academic credit?
That depends on the institution. Some schools offer academic credit to students who complete internships, while other schools provide only paid opportunities. In general, both undergraduate and graduate students prefer internship projects that are paid.
Is there a cost to participate?
The cost is $50 for companies that are a member of one (or more) of the following organizations: Albany-Colonie, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Southern Saratoga Chambers and CEG. The cost for non-member companies is $75.
